AFGM NORTHERN VIRGINIA Chapter
Northern Virginia, locally referred to as NOVA or NoVA, comprises several counties and independent cities in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. It is a widespread region radiating westward and southward from Washington, D.C. With 3,197,076 people according to the 2020 Census (37.04 percent of Virginia’s total population), it is the most populous region of Virginia and the Washington metropolitan area. Communities in the region form the Virginia portion of the Washington metropolitan area and the larger Washington–Baltimore metropolitan area.
Northern Virginia has a significantly larger job base than either Washington or the Maryland portion of its suburbs, and is the highest-income region of Virginia, having several of the highest-income counties in the nation, including 3 of the richest 10 counties by median household income according to the 2019 American Community Survey.

OUR WORK
We believe that it is our responsibility as men to support our local community. We have several activities and events that we sponsor throughout the year.
- AFGM Virtual 5K Walk/Run – This event takes place from October 1 through October 31 to promote a healthy lifestyle. All proceeds from this event goes to the management of AFGM and to assist other nonprofit organizations in our area.
- Healthy snacks for the homeless – AFGM answered a need from Northern Virginia Family Services to provide healthy bagged snacks for children who are living in homeless shelters in Virginia.
- AFGM Food Drive – In December 2020 we launched a food drive to assist local food banks whose resources have been depleted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
- AFGM Shoe Drive – Each year in March through April AFGM will host a shoe drive to support developing countries around the world.
- AFGM After-School mentoring – In 2021 we began after-school mentoring sessions at elementary school to mentor at-risk boys.
- AFGM Career day – We will sponsor a career day at several schools bringing in professionals from several different professions to educate the kids on various career paths.
- AFGM Food Basket Giveaway– We will sponsor a few specific families to give away a food basket during the holiday season.
- AFGM Scholarship – Our scholarship is for all AFGM and prospective AFGM mentees. Who are planning to attend college or trade school.
